The Puerto Rican urban singer De La Ghetto highlights the success of his career thanks to the duo school that barely lasted 12 months with Arcángel La Maravilla, but also during an interview on Alofoke Radio Show, he spoke about the legacy of Puerto Ricans in reggaeton, of which He assures that thanks to them there are artists like Karol G and Peso Pluma who enjoy high popularity.
During the conversation, De La Ghetto shared details of his beginnings, which date back to 2006, highlighting his brief but successful period as a duo with Arcángel. Despite lasting only a year, they achieved significant successes with approximately 15 songs, marking a milestone in the music scene.
The artist reflected on his roots in New York, where he absorbed the Puerto Rican and Dominican cultural diversity. This mix influenced the duo’s distinctive style, anticipating trends and applying elements of the American movement to the Latin world.
De La Ghetto, with 18 years in the industry, attributes his longevity to not giving up hope and his ability to adapt to various musical genres. He highlighted the difference between him and Arcángel, pointing out his street experience versus Arcángel’s recording studio experience.
He believes the responsibility for the end of the duo was due to the ‘egos’ of the friends they had respectively; ´´Suddenly they began to compare us and decide which of the two was the best, that had an influence´´.
Addressing the competition in Latin urban music, De La Ghetto recognized the impact of Colombian artists and highlighted Bad Bunny as the key to keeping Puerto Ricans on top. Despite the competition, the artist praised Colombian representatives such as J Balvin, Maluma, Feid and Karol G, but assures that they exist thanks to the urban movement of Puerto Rico, Puerto Rican reggaeton.
´´The Colombians arrived with romanticism and pop within reggaeton, a Karol G emerged who is for me the Jlo of Colombia, but as long as there are artists like Bad Bunny we will always be above the Colombians´´.
In reference to who he considers the best duo between him and Arcángel Vs Jowell and Randy, the Puerto Rican chose his duo because he considers that they sang all kinds of rhythms.
De La Ghetto admitted to being underrated in the genre, but stayed true to his style. Despite receiving advice to be more aggressive in shooting, he values his versatility in singing and rapping, believing in his multifaceted talent.
