Popular will (VP), the party of the Venezuelan opposition Leopoldo Lopezdemanded this Sunday from the Government of Nicolas Maduro and to the Electoral Power to establish a precise date for the presidential elections in Venezuelascheduled for the second half of this year.
“Venezuela still does not have a date for its presidential election in 2024. The regime and its corrupt leadership know that they are going to lose. That’s why we tell you from now on, set a date!”, expressed VP in a message published on his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The political party’s demand was accompanied by a message from the opponent and former head of the Venezuelan Legislature Juan Guaidóexiled in USAwho asserted that there is still no date for the presidential elections because these elections are used by the president Nicolas Maduro as a mechanism ofextortion” to the international community.
“We do not have to wait to all together demand an election schedule. It is the first element to make it competitive, to organize ourselves, defend the votes, ask for support from the international community.“said the opponent in a video shared by his party.
Guaidó asked the presidents of Brazil and Colombia, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Gustavo Petrorespectively, join this demand for the date of an election in which Venezuelans can express themselves.
Venezuela plans to hold the presidential elections in the second semester, as agreed by Chavismo and the majority opposition, meeting in the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), in October, when they signed an agreement on the “promotion of political rights and electoral guarantees for all”, which contemplates, among other points, international observation.

However, so far the Venezuelan electoral body has not commented on the exact date of these elections.
Meanwhile, the bulk of the opposition assures that they will work “every day” of 2024 to achieve the “electoral victory” from his candidate, the former deputy Maria Corina Machadowho is disqualified from holding elected public office.
For its part, Chavismo has not yet made the name of its candidate official and, recently, Maduro said that he still considers “premature“talk about your”eventual candidacy”.
