That was the most serious incident in this country since the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine, a period in which Romania has reported dozens of violations of its airspace of which it accuses Moscow.
On this occasion, the Ministry of Defense stated that the naval drone exploded in the port of Constanta was “of the type used in the Ukrainian war.”
“It self-destructed around 10:30 a.m. (07:30 GMT) without causing any casualties,” he added.

The Russian embassy in Bucharest immediately denounced that the device was of Ukrainian origin and kyiv later confirmed it.
According to the Ukrainian Navy, the naval drone was diverted from its route by Russian electronic interference, “lost control and ended up near the coast of Romania.”
Romanian President Nicusor Dan stated in X that the incident represents “the direct consequences of the war of aggression launched by Russia against Ukraine.”
