Thousands of salseros will have the opportunity to say goodbye to the legend of salsa, Rafael Ithier of El Gran Combo.

The Great Combo of Puerto Rico announced the date on which the public will be able to say goodbye to Rafael Ithier, its founder and key figure in the history of salsa. The family confirmed that, as he requested, a funeral mass open to the people will be held on December 15 in the Cathedral of San Juan.

Rafael Ithierwho died at the age of 99 on December 6, left in writing how he wished his funeral honors to be carried out. Following these instructions, his relatives summoned all the admirers of the pianist and musical director to this religious ceremony, where tribute to his legacy will be paid.

After the mass, the funeral will take place, but this act will be private, as Master Ithier himself wanted it. The family reported that they will later announce the place where his remains will rest, respecting the privacy of the moment.

The last goodbye to Rafael Ithier

The official statement details that the mass will take place at the San Juan Bautista Cathedral, in Old San Juan, at 10:30 in the morning. It will be a space for the public to accompany the family and offer a respectful farewell full of gratitude.

Puerto Rico and the world will be able to say their last goodbye to the man who marked the history of salsa with El Gran Combo, a group that for more than 63 years has brought music and dance to millions of people around the planet. The tribute promises to be a recognition of a life dedicated to art and rhythm.
