As fans eagerly await the next season of Dexter: Resurrectionthe hit revival of the flagship showtime series Dexterthe show’s Instagram account posted a production still featuring a surprise guest star. In the photo, bound and wrapped in cellophane, staring at seven-time Emmy-nominee Michael C. Hall is none other than system of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian. IMDB lists Odadjian’s character as “HR Martin,” and while not much is known about the character or his relationship to Dexter, the single episode suggests credit Martin will meet a characteristically grizzly end.
Dexter: Resurrection is created and shown by screenwriter and author Clyde Phillips, who showed the first four seasons of Dexter. You know, the good seasons of Dexter. Following the success of 2021’s underrated Dexter: New Blood and the unfairly dismissed 2024 prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, Phillips and execs at Paramount have gone all-in on Dexter: Resurrectionwith filming for the new season beginning back in April. Judging by the scores on IMDB, fans are excited to see Dexter Morgan back in action in a show that captures the original series’ dark humor while updating the aesthetic just enough for the modern Prestige TV era.
The first-season cast of Dexter: Resurrection included Academy Award-nominee Uma Thurman and Emmy-winner Peter Dinklage along with special guest stars Krysten RitterEmmy-winner Eric Stonestreetand David Dastmalchian. Season two will include Gabriel Luna, Bokeem Woodbine, Daniel Stevensand Emmy-winner Brian Cox and is expected to premiere on Paramount+ with showtime later this year.
While Odadjian’s casting in Dexter: Resurrection is a surprise, it is not the bassist’s first foray into acting. The bassist and music video director has taken occasional acting gigs dating all the way back to 2001, when he was a member of Hansel’s posse in Zoolander. And just last year he appeared in Constantine Paraskevopoulos’s feature debut, BFFs.
The other members of System of a Down have also been active in recent months. Serj Tankian collaborated with Tom Morello and his are Roman Morello on the anti-ICE protest song “ADJOURN IT” and spoke out against Israel’s recognition of the Armenian genocide; Daron Malakian you have continued down the path of fiery centrism with Scars on Broadway; and John Dolmayan you’ve been busy… doing whatever the fuck he thinks he’s been doing. Fans can see System of a Down performing at Sick New World in October, and the band just announced a co-headlining Australian and New Zealand tour with alt-metal pioneers Faith No More. The tour will mark Faith No More’s first time performing live in over a decade. Pre-sale is available now, with general on-sale tickets going live Friday, July 31st.
