Possession, a cult-classic horror film from 1981, is reportedly getting the remake treatment from The Batman star Robert Pattinson and Smile filmmaker Parker Finn. The duo are working together on the project, with the latter supposedly set to write, produce, and direct the movie.

The Hollywood Reporter Says the Possession remake has multiple studios coming to land the project, such as Netflix, A24, Paramount, and Warner Bros. Meetings are apparently happening this week.

Polish director Andrzej Żuławski helmed and co-wrote Possession, which is set in Germany and follows a couple going through a tumultuous divorce. Starring Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, Hunt for the Wilderpeople), the horror film takes off from there, featuring murder and even an alien. It’s one of GameSpot’s 13 scariest possession movies.

It’s unknown if Pattison will star in the Possession remake, possibly in the lead role of Mark originally portrayed by Neill. The Hollywood Reporter adds that it may depend on the script and scheduling, although the actor is definitely producing the project under his label Icki Eneo Arlo. The last time Pattinson was seen on the silver screen was with 2022’s The Batman, though he’ll star in Parasite director’s Mickey 17 early next year. (Side note: Pattinson is also a big fan of Final Fantasy VII.)

As for Finn, the director is busy finishing up Smile 2, which is supposed to arrive this October in theaters. The Possession remake would seem to be next up for the filmmaker.
