SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College has announced that its annual summer open house, Frances Day, will take place on Saturday, July 20, starting at 2 p.m.

This family-friendly event honors the museum’s namesake, Frances Young Tang, a Skidmore College alumna from the Class of 1961. The day offers visitors a variety of activities, including tours, art-making projects, food, music, and giveaways.

The highlight of this year’s Frances Day is the exhibition “Mark Dion and Alexis Rockman: Journey to Nature’s Underworld,” which features large-scale paintings and sculptures exploring humanity’s relationship with the environment and its ecological consequences.

Visitors can participate in guided tours of the exhibition, learn about sustainability, tour the museum grounds, and engage in art-making projects inspired by the exhibition, such as creating Recycled Earthform Crayons, Illuminated Landscapes, Bug Boxes, and Recycled Map Flowers.

Area musician and performer Taína Asili and her ensemble will perform a concert to close the evening at 5 pm Asili, known for her fusion of salsa, rock, reggaeton, Afrobeat, and other global sounds, previously performed at the Tang during the 2018 Upbeat on the Roof concert series.

All events are free and open to the public, with plenty of free parking available. In case of inclement weather, activities will move indoors. For more information, visit tang.skidmore.edu or call the Visitors Services Desk at 518-580-8080.
