For being one of the most important artists in Colombian history, the Barranquilla singer Shakira was honored with a 6.5-meter-high statue, a faithful copy of her personal trademark: the movement of her hips. And, in the work of art composed of aluminum and bronze, she is seen with the characteristic break that has marked her dances since she came to the musical stage.
This sculpture located in Los Corales, Barranquilla, has already been visited by thousands of fans of the “Ojos asi” interpreter, including her parents, who on the day the image was unveiled went to pose in front of it. Despite the perfection in the image and how well Shakira’s body details were taken care of, a spelling error was found by followers and now slightly stains the excellence of this tribute.
Through digital platforms, users highlighted that, on the plate of the figure, they made a mistake on the plate that accompanies it, since the name of the sculptor is misspelled. It should be noted that the creator of this wonder was Yino Márquez, but his last name has an “s” at the end, instead of the “z”. “Prepared by the artist Yino Márques in the La Paz neighborhood with the support of students and graduates of the District School of Arts,” the registration reads.
Although no one believes it, this blunder was caught by the artist, who assured that it will soon be modified. “I saw it a day before and the mayor himself told me don’t worry, that this will be corrected without a problem and yes, I see that there is no problem with that. It will be corrected and that’s it, nothing happens,” clarified the Colombian.
According to Yino’s statements on the same day that the statue was unveiled in front of the Barranquilla woman’s parents, the costume and pose that the image wears has a powerful reason. This would mean the river and the sea “because Shakira is river and sea: she is Barranquilla. The raised arms and clasped hands represent the reach of ‘transcendence.'”
On the other hand, through her Instagram, the artist showed her enthusiasm for this special gift from the government of her homeland: “I am very excited about this tribute to Colombian women and Barranquillas inside and outside my land!” she wrote .
