Misfits: The Next Generation

What do you do when you don’t fit in? You stand out! These authors know that what’s different is interesting. Comic-Con special guest Meggie Ramm (Batcat #1 & #2) joins Yoon Ha Lee (Moonstorm), Faith Schaffer (The Worst Ronin), Maggie Tokuda-Hall (The Worst Ronin), and Justine Pucella Winans (The Otherwoods) to talk about why it’s time to let the misfits shine. MARVEL: Past, Present, and Future from Abrams

Acclaimed creators John Jennings (Marvel Super Stories, Kindred), Chris Ryall (Mighty Marvel Calendar Book: A Visual History), and Ryan Meinerding (Marvel Studios’ head of visual development) explore the history of Marvel superheroes, their own personal histories working on Marvel’s acclaimed heroes, and how Marvel’s past influences their future. These creators will be joined by ABRAMS staff Andrew Smith (senior vice president, publisher, Abrams Children’s Books), Connor Leonard (editor), and Charles Kochman (editor-in-chief, Abrams ComicArts), with Sven Larsen (vice president, licensed publishing, Marvel’s licensing team).

Star Wars: Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away

From The High Republic to the Age of Rebellion, join storytellers of all kinds in this epic celebration of creativity across the Star Wars Galaxy, with exciting reveals from upcoming books, comics, games, and more. This panel will bring together writers, artists, and actors from across the Star Wars Galaxy, including the voice cast behind the upcoming open-world scoundrel adventure Star Wars Outlaws: Humberly Gonzalez (Kay Vess), Jay Rincon (ND-5), and legendary Star Wars voice actor, Dee Bradley Baker (Nix, Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: The Bad Batch). Rick Parker Makes his Mark

Cartoonist Rick Parker is a fountain of wacky, wild, wonderful ideas, and he can draw. His graphic novel memoir Drafted, published by Abrams ComicArts, is a poignant yet humorous tale of a young artist who finds himself drafted into the army at the height of the American war in Vietnam. It was a situation for which he was totally unprepared. Rick is in conversation with Karen Green (curator for comics and cartoons at Columbia University) and Charles Kochman (editor-in-chief), and they will be talking about Draftedscheduled to hit bookstores September 24. Rick also wants to tell you about The Artisteon his drawing table now.

Teaching Kids Comics with Meggie Ramm

Meggie Ramm (Batcat #1 & #2) presents the importance of comics in early education, the relevance of early access to graphic novels, and how to teach comic elements to elementary students. Meggie’s presentation will be followed by a brief workshop on one of her classes.

Patrick McDonnell’s Super Hero’s Journey

Mutts creator Patrick McDonnell’s The Super Hero’s Journey is a celebration and reinvention of the Marvel Comics drawn by Jack Kirby I loved like a kid. McDonnell will discuss this book and his upcoming Comic-Con Museum exhibit with Kirby experts Glen David Gold (Carter Beats the Devil), Charles Hatfield (Hand of Fire: The Comics Art of Jack Kirby), and publisher Charles Kochman (Abrams ComicArts). Moderated by Kim A. Munson (Comic Art in Museums).
