The president of , renewed the leadership of the Army with the retirement of 22 generals and the appointment of Brigadier General Alberto Presti as the new head of the Army, according to a decree signed on December 30 that was known this Tuesday.

The president’s decision also affects the Air Force and especially to the Navywhere seven admirals and three brigadiers go to the active reserve.

To the changes in the military leadership ordered by Milei adds to the decision of voluntary separation adopted on December 23 by the head of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces.lieutenant general Juan Martin Paleowho was appointed to the position during the Presidency of Alberto Fernandez (2019-2023) and was replaced by Brigadier General Xavier Isaac.

The Brigadier Major Fernando Luis Mengo takes charge of the Air Forcereplacing Xavier Isaacwhile Rear Admiral Carlos María Allievi takes over as new head of the Navy.

This change in the high military sphere is the largest within the Armed forces since the one carried out in 2003 by the then president Nestor Kirchner (2003-2007).

In addition to these appointments, Milei has in mind to carry out an audit of resources and functions within the Armed Forces, to which is added the policy of austerity in spending emanating from the decree of urgent need (DNU) signed by the new president on December 20.
