Earlier this week, Warner Bros. Discovery announced an abrupt price increase for Max just days ahead of the House of the Dragon Season 2 premiere (for more, check out our House of the Dragon Season 2 review). While that move wasn’t very popular, WBD has now revealed that Max is also getting a new free-trial subscription, but only for a limited time.

The biggest catch for the free trial is that it’s only available for new customers. Current and lapsed Max subscribers are not eligible. Additionally, the free trial will only last seven days from the initial setup. Anything after seven days will be billed normally by Max. But this free trial isn’t changing Max’s standard business model, which doesn’t usually offer this option. Max has already set the free trial offer to expire after June 23.

Subscribers to Max’s ad-supported plan were spared an increase this week. The price for that tier remains $10 a month or $100 annually. The standard ad-free Max subscription is now $17 a month, or $170 annually. The Ultimate Ad-free tier has jumped to $21 a month or $210 annually. For that price, subscribers receive 4K Ultra HD video streaming, Dolby Atmos sound, 100 downloads, and the ability to connect up to four devices simultaneously to Max.

DirecTV is still offering a two-month trial subscription to Max, but that promotion goes through DirecTV rather than Warner Bros. Discovery. But if you want to try out Max’s new seven-day free-trial, then click the button below to sign up for it.
