Matisse & Sadko are back with “Verve,” a triumphant resurrection of the progressive house sound that once ruled the EDM festival circuit.
The tenured dance music duo has masterfully recaptured the serotonin rush of those euphoric, hands-in-the-air moments, distilling them into a soaring instrumental track. It’s a sound they’ve mastered for well over a decade, leading to countless festival anthems released alongside Martin Garrix, Tiësto, John Martin and many more.
“Verve” builds with a swelling potency, layering intricate keys with pulsating bass. Matisse & Sadko eventually uncork a cathartic drop, a crescendoing waterfall of synths that washes over you with an almost cleansing intensity.
All said and done, the sublime track is a masterclass in progressive house that reminds us why we fell in love with the genre in the first place. When asked whether or not that nostalgic sound is making a comeback on the festival circuit, Matisse & Sadko said they anticipate a resurgence.
“Of course we cannot predict the future, but we see that this genre carries an emotion that is difficult to express in any other style of music,” the duo told EDM.com. “This is a rare combination of joy and sadness at the same time, energy and bright mood. We believe that this genre has great prospects and is again ready to take its place of honor at the biggest festivals.”
