Sacramento metalcore sextet Kingdom Of Giants are back with a new single. Fittingly titled “Respawn,” this track marks the debut of the band’s new bassist and clean vocalist, JT Gutierrez. The versatile musician/content creator takes the place of Johnny Reeves, who recently left the band to join Australian metalcore outfit The Amity Affliction. “Respawn” is the first new music from the band since their 2025 EP Burning Chrome.
Gutierrez put out the following statement:
‘Respawn’ is the start of a new chapter for the band — and for me stepping in. I’ve been working for 15 years trying to get to where I am today, and joining this band marks a turning point in my life that I will forever be grateful for. Working with the guys has been an incredibly smooth transition and they have become a very important part of my life. I couldn’t be more excited for what’s next.
lead singer Dana Willax had this to say about the new track:
‘Respawn’ is my favorite KOG track in as long as I can remember and I’m so excited to have JT be a part of it. I absolutely love how diverse his voice is and how well we work together and contrast each other simultaneously. ‘Respawn’ dives deep into a relationship that you know is wrong and unhealthy, yet you let that person back in for another chance even when they have proven themselves untrustworthy with something that is so close and important to you, and yet again, they let you down.
All of the could’ve been’s inside my head / How can I reset? Build cities from my regrets / And all of the chances that I killed instead / I’m an afterthought, praying to rust and rot
This new configuration of the band is already hard at work on new music, with several tours lined up for the summer and fall. Next week, starting June 11th, fans can see Kingdom Of Giants supporting Canadian alt-metal trailblazers Kitty on their Legacy Of Fire North American tour. In August, the band will join Japanese rockers CVLTE as support for Welsh post-hardcore sensation Holding Absence in Australia and Japan. And in September, the band will open for Canadian screamo veterans Silverstein and post-hardcore stalwarts Beartooth on their Pure Ecstasy Europe + UK Tour.
