The inauguration of the elected president of , on January 14, will be attended by the King of Spain, Felipe VI, as well as 10 other heads of state, as confirmed this Thursday by official sources.

The Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs detailed that the presidents of Mexico and Chile will attend the investiture of Arévalo de León, Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Gabriel Boricrespectively.

The presidents will also be in Guatemala Rodrigo Chavesfrom Costa Rica; Xiomara Castrofrom Honduras; Gustavo Petrofrom Colombia; Santiago Penafrom Paraguay; Daniel Noboafrom Ecuador and Laurentino Cortizofrom Panama, in addition to the Prime Minister of Belize, Juan Antonio Bricenoand the Prime Minister of Aruba, Evelyn Weber-Croes.

Likewise, the chancellors of Taiwan, Dominican Republic, Peru and Portugalspecified the same source.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed the presence at the change of command ceremony of Luis Almagrosecretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS).

Almagro has closely followed and monitored the transition process after repeated attempts by the Public ministry (Prosecutor’s Office) Guatemala for reversing the electoral victory of Arévalo de León.

The investiture of the new president will take place at 2:00 p.m. local time (20:00 GMT) and will mark the beginning of the Government of Arévalo de León, winner of the elections in 2023 led by the progressive party Seed Movement.

Arévalo de León warned on September 1 that the attorney general and head of the Public Ministry, Consuelo Porrascarried out a “coup” against him to prevent him from taking possession.

In an interview with EFE this week, the Guatemalan president-elect assured that the promoters of the “coup d’état” against him are “desperate” a few days after his inauguration.

The 65-year-old academic comes to power with an anti-corruption speech to replace the current president, Alejandro Giammatteiwho has one of the lowest approval levels on the continent, according to various surveys.
