Way back in 2020, HBO Max announced plans for a Green Lantern series set to debut on the streaming service. It goes without saying that much has changed in the intermittent years, namely the formation of DC Studios led by filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran. Among the initial slate of announcement projects as part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” was a Lanterns television series. Today, it was announced that HBO had given a straight-to-series order for the show. Serving as showrunner for the series is Chris Mundy (ozarks) who will co-write the show along with Damon Lindelof and Tom Kingboth legends in the world of superhero writing and beyond.

Gunn and Safran offered the following in an official statement:

“We’re thrilled to bring this seminal DC title to HBO with Chris, Damon and Tom at the helm. John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with superman.”

Casey Bloyschairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, added:

“We are excited to be reunited with both Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof as they partner with Tom for this fresh take on DC’s Green Lantern. As part of James and Peter’s vision for the DC Universe, this first new live-action series will mark an exciting new era.”

The aforementioned Green Lanterns series that ended up being overhauled was in development from executive producers and writers Seth Grahame-Smith and Mark Guggenheimalong with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter and David Madden.

With Nathan Fillion set to make his debut as fan-favorite GL Guy Gardner in James Gunn’s superman film, it’s tempting to assume the character may appear. Give your eyes peeled right here for announcements.
