A bit of group 5
Group 5 is a Cumbia Peruvian band founded on January 31, 1973 in the city of Monsfú. Its leaders are currently the brothers: Elmer, Andy and Christian, children of Elmer Yaipén Uypan, founder with his brother Victor.
Because of obtaining various awards and several other gold records for their record productions, Group 5 is considered the Gold Group of Peru.
It is one of the orchestras that influenced the Northern Peruvian cumbia at the end of the 1990s, together with Marine Water and Harmony 10.
In 2020, the American magazine Billboard included it in its list 15 Peruvian Artists to have on your radar (15 Peruvian artists to have on your radar), and described it as “one of the most popular cumbia groups in Peru”.
For 2015 Christian Yaipén, younger son of Elmer, after starting as a recurring artist in 2008, assumes the role of the main vocalist of the group, after graduating in writing of contemporary music and production in the Berklee College of Music. A short time later, the group would sign with the Oonerpm distributor.
Group 5 continues to cause a sensation. Proof of this is that the public goes to all their shows. So far, the Cumbia group has already filled the stadiums six times: 3 in San Marcos and 3 at the National Stadium. Tickets for these concerts are over just two hours.
