The Brazilian Government offered to send police to to support with investigations, intelligence work and public security tasks in response to the crisis of violence that the South American country is experiencing, according to an official letter released this Saturday.

The general director of the Federal Police of Brazil, Andrei Rodrigues, sent the Police Community of America (Ameripol), a cooperation mechanism between countries on the continent, a list of proposals to support the Ecuadorian Government, which declared this week the state of exception to confront criminal gangs.

Among the proposals is the opening of an Attaché Office of the Brazilian police in Quitocapital of Ecuador, to “further strengthen cooperation” between both countries, as well as send agents on an “immediate” mission, although the document does not clarify how many.

In addition, the Brazilian authorities are willing to offer intelligence teams and training courses in investigation and financial analysis to “decapitalize” the Criminal organizations.

The Police also propose to help Ecuadorian security forces in identifying Brazilian criminals who are operating in Ecuador.

The proposals come a day after an extraordinary Ameripol videoconference meeting that was convened by Brazil to discuss measures to support Ecuador.

The Ecuadorian Minister of the Interior, Mónica Palencia, as well as representatives of the police from 16 Latin American countries participated in the meeting, according to a statement from the Brazilian authorities.

The government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva condemned on Tuesday the crisis of violence that Ecuador is experiencing and expressed his solidarity with the Executive of Daniel Noboa.

The incidents began shortly after the authorities deployed operations in a Guayaquil prison in search of José Adolfo Macías, alias ‘Fito’, leader of ‘Los Choneros’one of the most dangerous criminal gangs in the country, and which apparently escaped over the weekend.
