The governments of Ecuador and Colombia have suggested to Peru that the expulsion of foreigners that occurs when applying the decree to expel migrants in an irregular situation or by air directly to the country of origin.

Zapata, in messages on his social network account X (formerly Twitter), reported that “He held a meeting with (Ecuadorian Foreign Minister) Gustavo Manrique and immigration authorities of Peru and Colombia with the objective of knowing the immigration measures of Peru and regional implications regarding the migration of foreign citizens from the neighboring country”.
“At the meeting the position of Ecuador and Colombia, who agreed that the expulsion process of foreign citizens be carried out by air from Peru to their country of origin“said Zapata.
He commented that at the end of the meeting “A new meeting was agreed to jointly determine the protocols and actions to be carried out.”, although he did not detail the day or the manner of the appointment.
Zapata also remarked that “At the moment in Ecuador the entry of foreign citizens through the border areas is not recorded” and asked citizens to inform themselves through official media.
The Prime Minister of Peru, Alberto Otarolaannounced that his Government has approved this Monday a decree that modifies the immigration law to allow the rapid expulsion of foreigners in an irregular condition.
Otárola pointed out that this rule aims to “improve immigration control, regulate the entry and exit of foreigners in the country” and apply a Sanctioning Administrative Procedure especially to irregular migrants.
The norm allows the Peruvian Police “retain” to foreigners in an irregular situation for 24 hours and then continue with a procedure that may involve expulsion and an order preventing re-entry into the country.

The Peruvian Migration Superintendency reported last Saturday that Peru has received 214,633 applications in six months to obtain the Temporary Residence Permit (PTP) that allows the immigration status of foreigners to be regularized.
