The president’s campaign team Joe Biden unveiled on Thursday its first television advertisement for the 2024 electionswhich warns of the threat “extremist” to democracy with images of the invasion of Congress by a mob recorded on January 6, 2021.
The piece, titled “Cause”, will be broadcast for the first time on Saturday, on the third anniversary of the historic assault on the Capitol by hundreds of followers of the then president donald trump (2017-2021), which left five dead, including a police officer.

“All of us are now asking ourselves: What will we do to maintain our democracy?“says Biden in a passage taken from a speech the president gave in the state of Arizona last year.
“There is something dangerous happening in USA. There is an extremist movement that does not share the basic creeds of our democracy”adds the announcement, released in the early hours of Thursday on social networks.
During the minute-long short, Biden does not mention by name former President Trump – the clear favorite for the Republican candidate’s nomination for 2024 – whom he defeated in 2020.
But over the dramatic music of the advertisement, images of banners in favor of donald trump carried by the January 6 rioters, as well as a noose with a gallows noose.
Also included are photographs of white supremacists with torches at a political rally in Charlottesville in 2017.
The campaign of Joe Biden increasingly illustrates this election as a fight for American democracy against Trump, including a speech to the same effect by President Biden in Pennsylvania on Friday.

Polls show a head-to-head between Biden and Trump despite the fact that the 77-year-old Republican billionaire faces multiple criminal trials, including one that links him to the January 6 riot.
Biden’s campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguezsaid that the Republicans “they redoubled” threats to undermine the elections.
“This announcement serves as a very real reminder that this election may very well determine the fate of American democracy“Chavez said in a statement.
