On November 7th, the long-awaited musical collaboration between Aterciopelados and Wendy Sulca was launched in style.
‘The future is now’ is the new song by Aterciopelados with Wendy Sulca, a vibrant song for life that unites the Colombian and the Peruvian, the Andean and the Amazonian. Written and produced by Héctor Buitrago, the song fuses the authenticity of Andrea Echeverri with the revitalized roots of Wendy Sulca in an Amazonian cumbia that celebrates “Floresta” (forest/jungle)—a word that connects Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, evoking the exuberant South American nature) and calls to confront the climate crisis from the everyday.
Between flashes of Peruvian cumbia, sounds of the jungle and the rebellious contemporary spirit of Aterciopelados, ‘The future is now’ is built as a sound party that crosses the subcontinent and shakes our consciences.
Inspired by the campaign “Time is running out, the future is now”, promoted by activists and social organizations under the leadership of Latindadd – Latin American and Caribbean Network for Economic, Social and Climate Justice, and with the executive production of NTV Música, the song reaffirms the environmental commitment of Aterciopelados and connects with young audiences in the run-up to COP30 (Brazil, 2025).
The cover art, created by Colombian artist Mariana Cuartas Camacho, condenses the song’s message: South American fauna and flora slide inside an hourglass, while the looks of the jaguar and the cock-of-the-rock embody the urgent demand of a generation that demands change. In the background, a photograph of the Peruvian jungle, by Emmanuel Dyan, reinforces the cross-border and collective nature of this cause.

For its part, the video produced by NTV Música (Peru) in collaboration with Velouria Media (Colombia) reflects the mysterious festival of the jungle, all surrounded by the mist of flying rivers and a psychedelia as futuristic as it is ancestral.
‘The future is now’ a cumbia for the planet and is now available on all digital platforms.
