The representative of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumpromised this Wednesday that he will defend the country’s sovereignty before Ronald Johnsonnamed on Tuesday as the next ambassador of USA by the elected president, donald trump.
“With this ambassador or with others we are going to defend our sovereignty, our condition of equality and we are going to collaborate and cooperate in everything that is required, but always in the interest of the people of Mexico and of the nationhe emphasized Sheinbaum during his morning press conference.
The Mexican leader thus reacted to the announcement of trumpwho named ‘Rum‘ Johnsonformer ambassador to El Salvador, to occupy this diplomatic position in Mexico.
Trump announced that Johnson will collaborate with his candidate for secretary of State, Marco Rubioto promote the “security and prosperity” of USA and promised “end the migrant crime” and “stop the flow of dangerous drugs” from Mexico towards his country.
Sheinbaum assured that the Mexican population must “have certainty” that his Government will always defend Mexico.
“And that any collaboration, coordination with the Government, particularly USAit will be equal. We always have to defend that because during, particularly, the period of (former president Philip) Calderon (2006-2012) there was a lot of subordination”he clarified.
He insisted that both governments have to collaborate without subordination to anyone.
In particular, he called for cooperation in the security strategy.
“We have a border of more than 3,000 kilometers, (on) the entrance of fentanyl to USA Well obviously we are going to collaborate, it is even a humanitarian issue, but we also want them to collaborate too, so that so many weapons do not enter Mexico”, he pointed out.
He insisted on the respect that must exist in bilateral relationship and highlighted that the main “It is attention to the causes and reducing impunity.”
“And there is the collaboration that exists with respect to our sovereignty. So that is why I have said that on all issues, I am convinced that there will be agreement and that you know that it will always be defending Mexico and raising the name of Mexico and without subordinating to the needs only of USA”he pointed out.
