The annual MTV Video Music Awards, better known as the VMAs, are back on September 10 in New York City, honoring the biggest names in music today. These awards have been held since 1984, where the best music videos of the year are honored. Today, August 6, MTV announced the list of nominations with 15 categories, led by American pop singer Taylor Swift, with 10 nominations, including ‘Video of the Year’. Of course, Karol G and Shakira are present but this time competing for ‘Best Latin Video’.

Voting opens this Tuesday and will be open until August 30, with the exception of the prestigious award for Best New Artist, which is decided live during the program broadcast on the famous channel. It should be noted that in the version held in 2023, the Colombians won the award for the best collaboration of the year with their song TQG. A song that is part of ‘Mañana será bonito’, Karol G’s fourth studio album, with which she recently ended her tour in style at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid.

“Collaborating with the legendary Shakira had been an impressive thing, to have an award with her is from another planet.” These were the words of the singer from Paisa when receiving the award alongside the Barranquilla native. Now, both are competing in the category of ‘Best video of the year’ alongside Rauw Alejandro, Anitta, Myke Towers and Peso Pluma. Karol G was nominated for the video for her hit ‘Mi ex estaba razón’ while Shakira for her song ‘Puntería’ alongside Cardi B. For the year 2020, the interpreter of ‘Si antes te había conocí’ won two awards: Best collaboration, with Nicki Minaj for the song Tusa, and Best Latin song for the song China, in which she sang alongside Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee, Ozuna and J Balvin.
