Daddy Yankee was nominated for the first time at the GMA Dove Awards, which specialize in Christian and gospel music, for his song ‘Donante de Sangre’. This nomination was announced on Wednesday, marking a new milestone in his career after retiring from the secular movement, according to El Espectador.
In a press release posted on his social media, Daddy Yankee said: “I feel truly honored to receive this nomination for ‘Donante de Sangre’ at the Dove Awards. It is truly gratifying to see my music being recognized in this way.”
Daddy Yankee will compete in the “Best Song Recorded in Spanish” category at the upcoming GMA Dove Awards ceremony, which will celebrate its 55th edition on October 1 in Nashville, Tennessee (USA). This year’s nominees were selected from more than 2,500 entries and voted on by professional members of the Gospel Music Association (GMA).
This year’s edition of the GMA Dove Awards, themed “Unite The Song,” aims to bring together artists and audiences to celebrate the power of music. Final voting for nominees will take place between August 1 and 8, 2024, prior to the highly anticipated event in Nashville, according to various Puerto Rican media.
Daddy Yankee announced his retirement from urban music in December 2023 during a series of performances at the Puerto Rico Coliseum in San Juan. During his fifth concert ‘La Meta’ on December 4, he declared that he would begin “a new story, a new beginning,” dedicating himself to living his life for Christ.
Previously, in March 2022, he revealed that he would be retiring after the release of his latest urban album, ‘Legendaddy’, and his farewell tour. ‘Donante de Sangre’, released on March 29, Good Friday, is a song dedicated to his faith and the transformation that Jesus made in his life.
