The iconic death thrash metal band PENTAGRAM (Chile) was formed in Santiago de Chile in 1985. At that time, the country was convulsed by political turmoil, but that did not stop it from Anton Reisenegger, Juan Pablo Uribe and (former drummer) Eduardo Topelberg ingested and ultimately emulated the most brutalist and evil forms of metal from around the world.
PENTAGRAM (Chili) recently announced his new album, «Eternal Life Of Madness«, and today they share a lyric video for the song «The Portal«. Watch it below.
PENTAGRAM (Chile) It is composed of guitarist and vocalist Anton Reiseneggerthe guitarist Juan Pablo Uribethe drummer Juan Pablo Donoso and the bassist Juan Francisco Cueto. The band marched forward since their debut «The Malefice» (2013) preserving the wild DNA that informed Darkthrone, At The Gates, Dismember, Napalm Death and many others.
«Eternal Life of Madness«, which is a distant greeting to the group’s classic «Spell Of The Pentagram» from his first Demo from 1987, has the overwhelming weight of «Possessor«, «The Imbunche«, «The Portal” and “Deus Est Machina«.
«When the pandemic hit, and I was stuck at home in Spain, I started writing riffs for a new album by Lock Up“, says Reiseneggerwho plays guitar in grind legends Witchcraft and in the Chilean masters of groove-thrash Criminal. «I realized that some of the things I wrote had the original feeling of PENTAGRAM (Chile), so I put those ideas aside. They started to pile up, so when the record ended Lock Up ‘The Dregs of Hades‘, I started to arrange them and work remotely with our drummer, Juan Pablo Donoso. I hadn’t even realized I had all that stuff inside me, but somehow it was wasted. We had a “false start” a few years earlier, when the original guitarist JP Uribe, JP Donoso and I got together and started improvising some new riffs. ‘The Portal‘ emerged from those sessions.
Although they have never been explicitly lyrically political, PENTAGRAM (Chile) have issued proclamations full of anguish throughout their 39 years of existence. The relics of the last (and most repressive) years of the reign of Augusto Pinochet They have a long memory, which is manifested through supernatural and terrifying lyrics. Previous songs, such as «The Apparition«, «Sacrophobia” and “Prophetic Tremors» (all of «The Malefice«), have dealt with superstition, mental disorder and cataclysm. «Eternal Life Of Madness” is no different. Anton Reisenegger brings out his favorite topics, imbuing them with the weight of the world. From folklore «The Imbunche» and the challenge to God of «Omniscient Tyrant» to the horror theme «Possessor» and the apocalyptic visions of «No One Shall Survive«, these are some of the most intense lyrics of PENTAGRAM (Chili) till the date.
