The elected president of Uruguay, Yamandu Orsisaid this Monday that he would “love” to meet the Argentine president, Javier Mileibefore assuming the Presidency of his country next March, and added that he aspires to have a “good relationship” with him despite ideological differences.

In an interview with the Argentine station Radio Miterthe elected president of Uruguay indicated that this meeting could occur in the LXV Mercosur Summit, which will take place on December 6 in Montevideoand who will accompany the outgoing president, Luis Lacalle Pou.
The relationship with Milei “It has to be very good, we have no other chance (option),” he said.
And he added: “From the point of viewphilosophical, ideological istwe will have quite conflicting points of view”but “The issues that call us together, which are the common issues, you have to appeal to common sense.”
“When you talk about relations between countries, there is not much to invent“, he added, clarifying: “This is also the region where we can be much more pragmatic.”
Orsi remembered that when there was “a lot of ideological or philosophical affinity” between Argentina governed by Nestor Kirchner (2003-2007) and Uruguay Tabare Vazquez (2005-2010) “relations were not necessarily better. “It doesn’t go through there.”
The president-elect indicated that, from a strategic point, “You always have to be aligned with the region,” against the far-right Milei that has opted in foreign policy, without fissures, for relations with USA and Israel.
The Uruguayan affirmed that his country has “a privileged situation” because it can “be the articulator” in the region against governments of different ideological and political tendencies.
The Argentine Government congratulated this Sunday Uruguay for an “exemplary civic day” and greeted Orsi for his victory, but the Uruguayan has not yet spoken with Milei telephonically.
“We ratify our commitment to work together with Uruguay to strengthen the shared agenda and the well-being of both countries,” states a statement from the Chancellery Argentinawhich was shared by Milei on their social networks.
