The Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader Respec mechanic allows you to fine-tune your character’s build in case you made mistakes or want to try something different. Since the game has several available classes/archetypes, dozens of skills, and hundreds of talents to choose from, it’s a given that you’ll have to make a few changes down the line. Our guide discusses how to reset your talents and resp in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. Also, please be reminded that this article contains minor spoilers.
How to respec and reset skills in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader
You can respec in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader by talking to High Factotum Janris Danrok, an NPC aboard your voidship. You should gain access to the vessel as early as Act 1. Danrok himself is found right near the main terminal that opens the Koronus Expanse map. Simply select “My retina and I are in need of training” to open a new panel. Note that Danrok himself has another option that lets you recruit custom companions (ie hirelings or mercenaries).
Also, bear in mind that choosing to respect a character costs Profit Factor; the cost increases the more you do so. Profit Factor is the currency used when trading for goods. You can learn more about this mechanic in our trading and faction reputation guide.

What can you respect or reset in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader
In terms of the Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader respec method, you’re only allowed to reset the talents, skills, and abilities that you chose for your character while leveling them. You may not change your character’s or any companion’s homeworld, origin, or starting archetype/class. However, you can select a different advanced class once you’ve gotten past level 16.
For instance, our Abelard is a Warrior-Vanguard hybrid. If we choose to reset him, he’ll remain a Warrior (basic class). We can then choose different skills, stat boosts, and abilities. As for his advanced class, we can choose from those available to the Warrior, such as the Arch-Militant or Assassin, or the Vanguard once more.
A note about potential bugs
Be warned that we’ve experienced a few critical bugs when we attempted to respect certain companions, like Yrliet, Marazhai, and Ulfar. There are certain skills and talents that appear as already obtained, even though they aren’t. We were also locked out of selecting certain attributes or even completing the entire process, as their default stats seemed to be already set. We can’t confirm if these issues will get fixed in time for the launch, so we advise you to keep backup saves handy just in case.
As an aside, we encourage you to check our companion recruitment guide and companion tier list. These are to help you determine which party members are worth bringing along for most of your adventures. We also have a companion romance guide if you want to see whether or not love can bloom in a grimdark universe.
