The vice president of the United States, J.D. Vancecriticized this Saturday those who “fantasize” that Ukraine can defeat Russia with more weapons, more money or more sanctions after receiving the Washington’s 28-point peace plan criticism for including several elements that benefit the Kremlin to the detriment of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“There is a fantasy that if we simply give more money, more weapons or more sanctions, victory is within reach. Peace will not be achieved by failed diplomats or by politicians living in a fantasy world. It could be achieved by smart people living in the real world,” he wrote on his personal X account.

“Every criticism of the peace framework that the (Donald Trump) administration is working on either misinterprets that framework or incorrectly describes some critical reality on the ground,” said the US vice president.

Vance stressed that any peace plan must stop the killing while “preserving Ukraine’s sovereignty,” be acceptable to both Russia and the invaded country, and maximize the chances that the war will not resume.
The 28-point plan that was announced the day before has received criticism because it was prepared without the involvement of Ukraine or European countrieswho on Friday stressed through the leaders of Germany, France and the United Kingdom that the position of kyiv, the European Union (EU) and NATO allies must be respected, in addition to rejecting the transfer of Ukrainian territory to Russia.
The Europeans insist, along with kyiv, that the front line of contact must be the starting point to reach an agreement and that the Ukrainian Armed Forces must continue to have the capacity to effectively defend the sovereignty of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyin turn said that Ukraine may find itself facing “a very difficult choice: either the loss of our dignity, or the risk of losing a key partner,” in reference to the United States, while ensuring that “it will not betray” the oath he took when he took office in 2019 to defend the sovereignty and independence of the country, as well as the rights and freedoms of its citizens and to comply with the Constitution, which prevents ceding territory.

According to the details of Washington’s peace plan that have become known, Ukraine would be forced to limit its Army to a maximum of 600,000 men after the war, to renounce membership in NATO or the deployment of allied troops in its territory and to cede the eastern regions of Luhansk and Donetsk to Russia.
In turn, the southern regions of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson would be frozen on the current line of contact.
In exchange, kyiv would receive security guarantees from the USwhich would undertake to intervene in the event of a new Russian invasion.
