“We have to do something about this. Maybe get the parties together and do something,” Trump responded to the press aboard Air Force One when asked if opposition leader María Corina Machado should be able to return to Venezuela.

Trump added that Machado “is a very good person and, at the same time, the current leadership is doing a very good job,” he added about the interim president, Chavista Delcy Rodríguez.
Regarding the oil sector, Trump assured that he has closed an agreement with India to purchase crude oil from Venezuela instead of Iranian oil and assured that China will be “welcome” if it wants to do business.
The Trump Administration has not publicly detailed timelines for the democratic transition in Venezuela following the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, on January 3 during a United States attack in Venezuela.

The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, stated last Wednesday before the Senate that the ultimate objective of the Trump Administration is to achieve a “democratic Venezuela” through “free and fair” elections, but warned that the transition is not a matter of weeks, but will last some time.
The American ambassador Laura Dogu arrived this Saturday in Caracas to reopen the United States diplomatic mission in Venezuela, closed for seven years after the breaking of diplomatic relations between both countries.
His arrival comes a day after Delcy Rodríguez announced a general amnesty for all political prisoners and the closure of Helicoide, a detention center feared for torture and human rights abuses.
