The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) this Wednesday urged the government of the Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro to take measures so that the opposition Maria Corina Machado can carry out political activitieswithout being subject to threats”.
In a statement, this body of the Organization of American States (OAS) highlights “the persistence of threats, harassment and other acts of violence“against Machado”within the framework of the current electoral context”.
Machado swept the primary elections of the main opposition alliance but cannot contest the 2024 presidential elections against Maduro due to a political disqualification, which he has appealed to the Supreme justice court (TSJ).
