For a band who started out keeping themselves anonymous behind masks and numbers, only to inevitably step out from behind the masks as they became the biggest metal band in the world, you gotta give it to Slipknot for continuing to maintain their own subcategory of cryptozoology anytime they replace a member.

The clandestine character of the moment, who for now I’m going to call “Kintsugi Kenny”, stepped in for Craig “133” Jones on samples, media, and keys last year, and has yet to be positively identified. However, he has now apparently been caught in a photo sans mask.

In this picture, taken backstage At the band’s September 1st Rocklahoma performance and posted to Kelly Osborne’s Instagram Stories, you can see a boiler-suited and unmasked fellow just over Corey Taylor’s head, apparently either getting an earful from security or listening to someone’s screenplay idea (check the resigned body language ).

Early on, Kintsugi Kenny was thought to be Zac Baird, a keyboardist who had put in time as the masked horse in Korn’s See You On The Other Side touring band. However, a rogue filename discovered back in April on the teaser site youcantkillme.com redirected fans to Jeff Karnowski, former bassist for Dirty Little Rabbits.

That band was a side project of Slipknot’s own M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan, and also featured Michael “Tortilla Man” Pfaff, who joined the ‘knot back in 2021 as replacement for former percussionist Chris Fehn.
