The German international news network (DW) was declared today ‘undesirable organization’ for him as stated in the corresponding list published on its official portal.

Given this decision, DW announced that it would continue its news coverage on Russia from the Latvian capital, Riga.

On December 11, the Attorney General’s Office recognized DW as ‘undesirable’ and requested his inclusion on the Ministry of Justice’s blacklist.

Next, the spokesman for the German Government, declared that the Executive “strongly condemns the continued repression against and reaffirms its solidarity with the many critical colleagues in the media, inside and outside Russia, who are not willing to tolerate the disinformation campaigns organized by the Russian state.”

For his part, Josef Hinterseher, deputy spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, also condemned this “totally unfounded” classification and criminalization.

“Russia, we also know, massively represses freedom of expression in its own country. Repression there is the order of the day, there is no longer freedom of the press. Therefore, in the general situation, we are not surprised,” he added.

After the beginning of the the Russian authorities have launched a campaign against many international media outlets, accusing them of spreading false news about the Russian Army and threatening state security.

In June 2024, Russia blocked the sites of 81 European media outlets, including that of the EFE agency, after the veto of several Russian media outlets in the and, a year later, it added fifteen other foreign media to its blacklist.

The declaration of DW as an “undesirable organization” is a response from Russia to Germany’s stance on the war in Ukraine and its firm support for kyiv.
