RIPPED TO SHREDS explodes from the underground with all the bloody hallmarks of the infernal sound RTS: an onslaught of frenetic dueling solos, explosive drums and vocals Van Drunen that further fuse the grit and grime of old school Death Metal and Grind with the here and now. Led by guitarist and frontman Andrew Lee, RIPPED TO SHREDS is as fierce and focused as ever.
Conceptually, «Sanshi» sees the band delve into a morbid fixation with death and the afterlife against the backdrop of traditional Chinese folklore. Tracks like lead single «Perverting The Funeral Rites, Stripped For The Dead» is a song inspired by dark funeral rites in Taiwan, in which exotic dancers perform rituals for the living and the dead alike. On the other hand, «Force Fed» delves into the legend of «Elixir of Oblivion” of Meng Powhich when drunk by the dead, erases their memories before being reborn in their next incarnation.Living In Effigy» is inspired by true stories of photographers travelling through remote rural China taking funeral portraits of elderly people dying alone.
RIPPED TO SHREDS about “Sanshi«:
«We wanted to go all out with our most morbid and devastating material to date. Perverting…’ It showcases our new live approach with constant back-and-forth vocals and solos, and we shot the video in Taiwan with a real Taoist priest as a natural extension of the narrative approach of RTS when composing songs.”
The cover of «Sanshi» is courtesy of the artist Guang YangLee’s longtime collaborator, and depicts a scene from Yan Luo Wangthe God of Hell, and the dead who must face his judgment in his demonic court.
