In the 90s, an emerging group from the Dominican Republic rose to fame with a huge hit of the time: ‘El Tiburon’ catapulted Project One to stardom. With an innovative fusion of merengue and house, the band, led by Nelson Zapatabegan his career in New York.
Project One quickly earned a place in the music scene with its distinctive sound and vibrant energy. Nelson Zapata, in an interview with Infobae, recounted the band’s beginnings.
Initially, he was persuaded by his schoolmates to join a group representing his country, starting out as a güira player. Over time, he became the group’s lead vocalist.

The band’s creative process intensified when Pavel de Jesús, a friend of the artist, showed samplers on his computer, inspiring Zapata to innovate with merengue sounds.

The Spanish single ‘Everybody everybody’ was a resounding success, followed by the hits ‘Está pegao’ and ‘El conejo’, which led to Project One to tour internationally, including appearances on popular shows.
Despite nominations for prestigious awards, the band faced a significant downfall due to internal legal fights. Zapata discovered irregularities in the trademark registration, which resulted in a legal battle. However, he managed to mend his relationship with the members and won the legal battle.
Project One Not only is he still active, but he has also recently released new material. This time they released a song called ‘Cupido remix’ with Jerau and Marcela A.

Renowned artists Jerau, Marcela A and Project One announce the release of the music video for their latest collaboration ‘Cupido remix’, a vibrant mix of Latin pop and urban merengue that promises to be a sensation and once again captivate the hearts of their fans in Colombia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
‘Cupido remix’ is a joint composition by Jerau, Marcela A and Nelson Zapata of Project One. The musical production and arrangements were done by Marcela A, with Jerau and Leo Herrera as co-producers. This cheerful and rumba-like song tells the funny complications that can arise when one falls in love with one’s best friend, with a fresh and Caribbean touch that characterizes the style of Jerau and Project One.
