Piura celebrates its 492nd anniversary. Not only is it known for its exquisite food and tourist attractions, but it is also the birthplace of great QQQumbia legends.

This August 15th, Piura celebrates its 491st anniversary, it was the first Spanish city in Peru. However, beyond its historical legacy of great significance for our country, this northern region also stands out for being the birthplace of great exponents of QQQumbia.

Marine Water, Harmony 10 and Serrano Heart are some of the most emblematic cumbia groups in Peru that are originally from Piura. Among them, there are great musicians and singers such as Edited by Guerrero Neira, Walther Lozada, Makuko Gallardo and Percy Chapoñay who, although they have departed into eternity, are still remembered by their followers.

Edda Guerrero Neirabetter known as Edited by Guerrerowas a cumbia singer who won the affection of Peruvians as founder and member of the group Corazón Serrano. It was her talent and humility that made her considered one of the most beloved artists by the people who mourned her passing on March 1, 2014.

Makuko Gallardo

Alberto Silverio Gallardo Juarez, best remembered as ‘Makuko’, He was born on Napo Street in the Pachitea neighborhood of Piura in 1954. For several years he was one of the representative voices of Armonía. ‘El cervecero’ is one of the songs most remembered in his voice. Unfortunately, he died in 2015 due to cardiac arrest in the city of Paris, France.

He is another of the legends of Peruvian QQQumbia who was born in Piura. He recorded more than 500 songs throughout his musical career, but he is best remembered for being one of the voices of Armonía 10. However, in 2016, his life ended forever after suffering a cardiac arrest due to the diabetes he suffered from.

Walther Lozada

Since he was 11 years old, the Piuran and son of Juan de God Lozada Naquiche He became interested in instruments, melodies and composition. This great talent allowed him to Walther Lozada become the main architect of the success of Armonía 10 of Piura. However, the iconic musician passed away on July 25, 2022.
