The commander of the Fajardo police region, Carlos Nazario Lebron, indicated early on Monday that the intervention on the artist was initially due to an alleged “kidnapping” in circumstances that were being investigated by prosecutor Pedro Vargas Echevarría.
The arrest of Zion, whose name is Félix Gerardo Ortiz Torres, 44 years old, occurred around 10:26 pm, when he was traveling along the PR-66 highway in a Dodge RAM 1500 vehicle, the Police reported, as part of an investigation into an alleged kidnapping.
At that time, the Uniformed officers detected that the urban music exponent had been driving in an apparent state of intoxication, so he was later transferred to the Fajardo Highway Patrol Division headquarters, where a breath test was administered, in which he showed an alcohol level of 0.27%.
A woman and her 23-year-old son were also passengers in Ortiz Torres’ vehicle. In a second vehicle – which was stopped by another agent – was another woman.
Zion tells his version after being arrested: “Two women fought there”
Arrested and released in Río Grande. Why was the Puerto Rican reggaeton singer arrested? This is what he said.
A Police report on Monday afternoon indicated that prosecutor Vargas Echevarría, “when evaluating the evidence, determined not to file criminal charges against Ortiz Torres.”
“I am very happy, what happened was a fight between two women, and one of them left in another car and called to say that, nothing to see,” said the artist after leaving the barracks with his lawyer, Jorge Gordon Pujol, who reiterated that “justice has been done.”
“They didn’t summon me, it’s all over here. I’m not that kind of person,” Zion said.
“None of them are my partner, they were with us in Palomino, on the yacht, I met them the other days. We don’t know where the accusation came from, but we have the evidence and those who saw the fight between the two,” said Ortiz Torres.
Ortiz Torres was in the municipality’s Diagnosis and Treatment Center (CDT) since the morning, where he was transferred to undergo routine tests because “he had anxiety and wanted to verify that everything was fine,” he said.
When he left the barracks to be transported to the CDT, he assured the press that the accusations of an alleged kidnapping were “a lie” and that “I have never had problems with women, never, it is a lie.”
“I have not had communication with any of them after that. I already explained to the police what happened, as did my son and other people,” the reggaeton player said.
