Night of Stars and Surprises: Tainy Makes History at the Puerto Rico Coliseum
In the gloom of the emblematic José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum of Puerto Rico, a transcendental chapter in the island’s musical history was revealed on Twelfth Eve night. The central figure of this evening, Marcos Efraín Masís Fernández, known on the scene as Tainy, not only met expectations, but far exceeded them, demonstrating that his art transcends the barriers of time and adversity.
Tainy’s feat was not limited to filling the “Choliseo” to the last corner in the midst of a pandemic that deprived us of our most sacred celebrations. It went much further. The 34-year-old composer, with more than two decades of career behind him, took over the stage with a show that goes beyond music: it is a cultural experience that celebrates resilience and passion for urban music.
The audience, diverse in ages and styles, became a sea of silver, sequins and pink-toned wigs, imposing an unwritten but universally accepted fashion for the occasion. The massive influx resulted in a packed third floor, with “hoodies” sold out in a matter of minutes and the lines to purchase any item related to the musician seeming like an endless labyrinth.
Gallego, “the poet of reggaeton,” had the honor of introducing the artist of the night, weaving a narrative that, like Tainy’s music, fuses authentic lyrics with tropical and salsa rhythms. A story that, according to Gallego, begins at the very birth of Tainy, where destiny already predicted greatness, accompanied by a mysterious beat that resonated in the air.
But Tainy’s greatness is not measured only on stage, but in his vast collaboration with names that transcend genres and borders: from Wisin & Yandel to Paris Hilton, Alejandro Sanz, Shakira, Anuel AA, Ozuna and many more. More than 100 hits were displayed in the show called “Data Loading”, where Tainy was not alone. A dozen colleagues joined the marathon evening, including surprise appearances such as Bad Bunny.
The 360 platform, simulating the interior of a computer, witnessed a visual and musical spectacle that began with classics such as “Permítame” and “Fashion Girl.” The electricity that ran through the tower’s cables, giving life to an animation present in Tainy’s latest project, “Data”, marked the opening of an unforgettable night.
After the concert, Tainy, with the humility that characterizes him, thanked the audience for their constant support over the years. However, for the “after party” at La Perla, apparently, the energies could have been depleted after such an intense day.
