Trump announces ground attacks against cartels after operation in Venezuela
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, affirmed that his Government “will now begin to attack the drug cartels by land,” in a twist in its anti-drug strategy after maritime operations in the Pacific and the Caribbean. Trump said that these groups “control Mexico,” without offering details about the dates or scope of those actions, which has generated regional concern.
His statements come a few days after the controversial operation that captured former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro, linking the offensive against drug trafficking with his policy in Latin America. The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has rejected any military intervention in her country.
