The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, congratulated this Sunday Yamandu Orsi for his triumph in the presidential elections of Uruguaywhile advocating for “the construction of a respectful and positive relationship, of cooperation and shared support” between both countries.
“I congratulate the Uruguayan people on the election day held this November 24, where they elected Yamandú Orsi, to whom I wish and predict the greatest success”Maduro expressed through Telegram.

Orsi, candidate of the Wide Frontbecame the third left-wing president in the history of Uruguay by defeating Alvaro Delgadoof the National Party, by just over 90,000 votes, with 98% of the electoral circuits scrutinized, according to data provided by the Electoral Court.
Last September, Orsi said that “the situation in Venezuela is indefensible” and stated that in the country “There is a very authoritarian regime”.
