It goes without saying that 2023 was a rough year for Disney. With any luck the tide will change for the House of Mouse in 2024. To that end, the Walt Disney Company released a first-look image and special look for Moana 2the sequel to the acclaimed 2016 animated film.
Presumably, Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson will reprise their respective roles as Moana and Maui.
Last November during the New York Times annual DealBook summit Walt Disney Company Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger admitted despite success with sequels for the company, there have been issues.
“I don’t want to apologize for making sequels. Some of them have done extraordinarily well and they’ve been good films, too. I think you there has to be a reason to make them, you have to have a good story. And often the story doesn’t hold up to is not as strong as the original story. That can be a problem.”
