Never mind Ibiza—Swedish House Mafiaare going from Miami 2 the metaverse.
The legendary electronic music group have announced “DJs World: Swedish House Mafia,” a virtual music and gaming experience developed for theRobloxplatform.
Before you groan at this umpteenth metaverse rave, consider its fringe benefits. A press release shared with EDM.com says the experience “stands in contrast to the raft of virtual concerts” staged in Roblox due to its many interactive layers, like digital fashion collectibles, 3D games inspired by the band’s music and a scavenger hunt.
The experience’s interactive gaming features are being plugged as its keystone. Each has its own unique functionality designed to move in tandem with the “lyrical and emotional content” of Swedish House Mafia’s many iconic songs.
That includes the trio’s chart-topping collaboration with The Weeknd, “Moth to a Flame,” the gameplay of which beams users into a futuristic forest to glide through the air on a giant moth and gain XP by collecting hearts.
Having long operated at the bleeding edge of the electronic dance music scene, Swedish House Mafia have remained prolific after last year’s long-awaited comeback album, Paradise Again.
The supergroup’s legacy has since reached new heights by virtue of a show-stopping headliner gig at Coachella alongside The Weekend, with whom they reunited to collaborate on a song for James Cameron’s record-breaking Avatar: The Way of Water film. They also joined forces with A$AP Rocky to produce music for the hip-hop luminary’s upcoming fourth studio album, Don’t Be Dumb.
The gameplay for “DJs World: Swedish House Mafia” will officially launch on December 1st, 2023 at 6pm ET (3pm PT). Fans can check out a trailer below and join a waiting room to see exclusive previews of the experience’s games here.
