According to the Hawaiian singer, the lack of commitment and discipline of his friend, who was going to be his partner on stage, pushed him to make the decision to work alone. “I am very accomplished, very overly accomplished,” Maluma said in an interview with the ‘CNN en Español’ network.
Maluma: “Should I record with him or alone?”
“This crazy guy (his friend) didn’t show up and I said ‘what am I going to do now? Should I wait for him and record with him or record alone?’ I told the producers: ‘this is worth it’, because they charged for the hours in the recording studio. I had been waiting for like 45 minutes, I told them: ‘I’m sorry, I have to start recording, I’m going to start recording without him,” Maluma said.
This episode was crucial in the artist’s career, as it marked the beginning of his path as a soloist. The responsibility and punctuality that he has always shown were determining factors in his decision not to depend on anyone else to advance his musical career.
