With two SOLD-OUT functions, the singer Puerto Rican, and recent Latin GRAMMY® nominee, Jay Wheeler, presented his concert “Girasoles” this weekend at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, marking his seventh and eighth performance at the prestigious venue.
These presentations were recognized by the Puerto Rico Coliseum, which awarded him recognition for his legacy at the venue.
SUNFLOWERS: THE EVOLUTION
Produced by José “Pepe” Dueño and under the creative direction of Gabriel Gil of Golden Hour Music, the concert featured a concept inspired by the album of the same name, portraying the maturity and emotional transformation of the artist. Under the label of Dynamic Records, the record company founded by Wheeler and his manager Luis Suárez Silva “Siru”, Girasoles is consolidated as a large-scale production that reaffirms its commitment to excellence, local talent and creation of world-class shows.
The stage design, by José Díaz of DHI Studios together with Golden Hour Music, offered an immersive experience with a system of screens of approximately 130 feet from end to end, arranged in a semicircle, and a 53-foot-diameter sunflower-shaped centerpiece, created by the Puerto Rican collective AS&S. The assembly also included a rotating platform, at the moment the only one of its kind in Puerto Rico, where a symphony of 20 musicians made up of students from the Escuela Libre de Música and the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico performed on different occasions.
The production had near of 150 professionals, including a band of seven musicians, twelve dancers and an experienced technical and production staff of around eighty specialists. The costumes, designed by Gax Company, complemented the aesthetics of the show with pieces inspired by the performer’s current stage.
EMOTION AND MEMORIES: A JOURNEY BETWEEN SUNFLOWERS AND THE CLASSICS
Among the most emotional moments of the night was the dedication of the show to his first-born daughter Aiunii, who was present with her family in the audience. Later, the audience witnessed a moving moment when Wheeler performed “Better Than You” and his mother came up on stage to hug him, unleashing a cheer and screams of excitement throughout the Coliseum.
For three hours, Jay Wheeler performed more than forty songs that toured his career: from the hits of his most recent album Girasoles to classics that marked his career.
The night opened with “Aiunii” and progressed between songs such as “Abrázame Fuerte”, “Roma”, “Una Como Tú” and “NSQMQ”, to then connect with hymns such as “La Curiosidad”, “Fragancia”, “La Vida y sus Cosas” and “Eazt”, a song with which he closed the evening.
The artist shared the stage over the weekend with special guests, including Robi, with whom he performed “Te Hice Una Balada”; the Dominican Chris Lebron, in “ Desde Mis Ojos ”; Brytiago, in “Desnudarte”; Ela Taubert, in “You Didn’t Know How to Take Care of Us”; Kenny, in “Ya Ni Sé”; and his wife Zhamira Zambrano, with whom he starred in a moment of complicity when performing “Díselo” and “Estrañandorte”. During the second and last performance, Wheeler surprised with a list of luxury guests: Chris Lebron, in “ Desde Mis Ojos ”; Conep, in “That K”; Kenny, in “Ya Ni Sé”; and the Venezuelan Noreh, in his hits “Maquillaje”, “Multiverse” and “Lugar Seguro”.
One of the most special moments of the weekend was, without a doubt, the meeting between Jay Wheeler and Tommy Torres, who came together on stage to perform “Amor de Febrero” and the iconic song “Siempre Imaginé” by Torres. Likewise, the audience’s energy overflowed when Arcángel joined Wheeler to perform “Si Te Veo” and his hit “Por Amar a Ciegas,” lighting up the venue with a perfect combination of nostalgia and urban strength.
TWO NIGHTS OF GRATITUDE WITH HIS FANS
“These concerts represent everything I have learned and what continues to grow within me. Sing At home it will always be a unique experience and it makes me very happy that the people who believed in me from the beginning share with me moments as beautiful as those of these two nights. “This concert symbolizes everything I am experiencing as an artist, and each sunflower for me is light, it is happiness,” Wheeler said excitedly before a full Coliseum.
During this weekend, Jay Wheeler reaffirmed his connection with Puerto Rico and consolidated a new stage in his career, marked by maturity, renewal and authenticity.
