The elected president of Argentina, Javier Mileistated this Monday that his “lines of work are working with the lines of work” of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with whom the country has a debt of close to 46 billion dollars.
““Our lines of work are working with the lines of the Fund,” Milei said in an interview with radio Miter, after the managing director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgievawould have congratulated the president-elect on his social networks and shown his desire to work “closely with him” to develop a plan that “guarantees the macroeconomic stability” of the country.
Argentina sealed an agreement with the IMF in 2022 to refinance the debt of 45 billion dollars that the South American country had contracted in 2018 and which, with accumulated interest, is now around 46 billion.
The financing program contemplates the fulfillment of quarterly goals – primary deficit, international reserves and monetary emission to finance the Treasury – that Argentina is on track to not meet this year-end.
““The government is dropping the agreement because it did not meet the fiscal goal.”Milei recalled this Monday, since the goal for the end of 2023 was 1.9% of GDP primary deficit and the Government of Alberto Fernandez “it is leaving 2.9%.”

Milei also recalled that Argentina had committed to not using the Central Bank as a financing mechanism and ended up financing the equivalent of 6% of GDP “directly and indirectly” through the monetary entity.
““We are willing to do things accordingly,” Milei stated.
The leader of La Libertad Avanza (ultaderecha) defeated this Sunday with 55.69% of the votes the official candidate (Peronism), the current Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, who obtained 44.3%, to occupy the Presidency of Argentina.
