Diplo confirms that the duo managed to finish an album with great collaborations, but personal tensions stopped its release, Jack Ü’s second album that will never see the light is no longer a rumor
During a recent podcast interview Smart Girl Dumb QuestionsDiplo surprised by revealing that he and Skrillex completed a second album of their joint project Jack Ualthough the material could be archived forever.
“We made a whole album. We recorded a lot of weird stuff”Diplo said. “It probably sounds a little old-fashioned now.”.
Diplo also confessed that his relationship with Skrillex is going through a very difficult moment:
“Skrillex hates me… it’s a real hatred that I don’t understand. We tried to talk about it, I looked for mediation, but it didn’t work. Still, I love him, we were like brothers.”
The duo Jack U was born in 2013 as the union between two of the most influential producers of the modern electronic scene. In 2015 they released their only album, Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Üwhich won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album and gave life to global hits like “Where Are Ü Now” with Justin Bieber, a song that also took the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Recording. With his fusion between trap, bass and experimental pop, Jack Ü marked an era and opened new doors for commercial electronic music.
Dip recalled the creative chemistry the two shared: ““I had wild ideas for pop music, and he… nobody creates sounds as unpredictable as Skrillex.”. However, that connection eroded over the years and, although the duo managed to complete a new album, its publication seems increasingly unlikely.
For now, fans will have to resign themselves to the fact that the second album by Jack U It may never see the light of day, although its legacy is still very present in the history of electronic music.
