J Balvin will headline the lineup of guest stars at Latin Music Week in Miami

The event, organized by ‘Billboard’ magazine, celebrates its 35th anniversary and has become a great meeting place for artists, executives and members of the industry.

In the midst of his global status as one of the top ten most-listened-to singers on the planet, J Balvin will host the upcoming Billboard Latin Music Week, taking place October 14-18 at The Fillmore Miami Beach (Jackie Gleason Theater). Organizers have announced that the Colombian will host the event’s marquee event, called The New Generation of Reggaeton: An Evening Curated by J Balvin, which will feature special performances by a handful of unannounced performers whom the artist will be giving a shout-out to in front of the industry’s most important executives.

It’s been more than a decade since his song Yo te dije became his first hit, and the album La familia became one of the most important in the history of reggaeton as a genre. Today, approaching 40 years old and after having sold 35 million records and accumulated 18 singles in the Billboard Hot 100, Balvin presents a new album —named Rayo— that is now available on all platforms.

Last April, in an interview with EL PAÍS, the singer of Mi Gente spoke about how much he still has to do. “There is still a lot to unblock: China, as it should be, India, Asia in general. There is a very cool mission over there. We started to unblock Australia three years ago. The mission now is to fill the first reggaeton stadium there,” said the singer who will be touring Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia at the end of the year.

The great meeting of Spanish music
Billboard Latin Music Week has been celebrated for seven decades, but it has taken on new relevance following the explosion of reggaeton in the world, which has now been joined by other genres. Last year it had a top-level lineup, with artists such as Peso Pluma, Nathy Peluso, the reunion of RBD, Thalía and Shakira herself. This 2024 it will extend for five days and will return with panels, conversations and performances by the already confirmed Danna Paola, Danny Ocean, Lele Pons, María Becerra, Mau y Ricky, Mon LaFerte, among others. “We are proud of the decades of work we have done to celebrate Latin talent and unite the community. This year’s event will be an incomparable celebration for artists, the industry and fans,” said Mike Van, president of Billboard, in the press release. Likewise, interested public will be able to participate with new general admission passes for specific days for a value of $150. Full admission tickets cost $650.

Miami Mayor Steven Mein has joined the celebration by announcing the event’s lineup. The so-called capital of Latin America is also home to a prolific music industry in which Latinos are the new kings. Miami is where much of the Spanish-language music heard around the world is produced and recorded, and it is home to the genre’s biggest artists. “Miami Beach is ready for Latin Music Week, an event that truly showcases the vibrant and diverse culture of our community. These days not only celebrate the rich heritage of Latinos, but also highlight Miami Beach as a global destination for arts and entertainment,” he said in the same statement.

Latin Music Week will coincide with the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards on Friday, October 18, and will benefit Save the Music, an organization that provides music education and equitable access to millions of students across the country.
