The Army of Israel attacked positions of the Shiite group this Wednesday by air and artillery Hezbollah in Lebanon, after detecting the launch of two surface-to-air missiles and other projectiles, in a new day of hostilities in the border area between both countries.
“After the sirens that sounded in the north of Israeltwo surface-to-air missiles were launched towards a plane of the Israeli Air Force. The plane was not hit and continued with its mission.”reported a statement from Israeli armywhich responded with artillery fire to the origin of the launches, which also included rockets.
Israeli also identified the launching of projectiles from Lebanon towards the areas of Goren and Manarain northern Israel, which responded with artillery against the “origin of the threat”, in addition to attacking “additional terrorist infrastructure.”
Additionally, Israeli fighter jets and helicopters attacked “the terrorist infrastructure Hezbollah a military complex, launching points, a command center and a weapons depot”, at other points on the border.
“We are not going back to the way things were before. This means pushing more militarily to reinforce the border and bring residents back, all communities along the entire border line, to a different situation that is much safer.”, stated the chief of the Israeli General Staff, Herzi Halevivisiting the reservist troops stationed on the northern flank.
In the morning, Israeli aircraft also attacked targets of the Shiite group in Lebanese territory such as “infrastructure and military posts where ‘terrorists’ of Hezbollah ”according to an Army statement.
The Israeli-Lebanese border is experiencing its highest peak of tension since the war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006, the day after the outbreak of war between the Islamist group Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip last October 7.
Since the beginning of hostilities in the area, there have been more than 152 dead: 11 in Israel -7 soldiers and 4 civilians- and at least 141 in Lebanon, including 107 members of Hezbollah, 16 members of Palestinian militias, one soldier and 17 civilians -including three journalists and three children-.
Israel has deployed more than 200,000 soldiers to its northern border, where violence has also displaced thousands of residents: some 80,000 people have been evacuated from communities in northern Israel. Israel and more than 70,000 have fled southern Lebanon.
