South Africa accused Israel of genocide in December before the ICJ and asked for precautionary measures – such as an immediate ceasefire – while the process is carried out.
In a public hearing, the court of UN demanded today from Israel “adopt immediate and effective measures” to allow humanitarian assistance access to Loop and “punish” any incitement to genocide of Palestinian civilians, although he did not call for a ceasefire.
Yesterday, Hamas assured that he would abide by a ceasefire if so stipulated by the ICJ whenever and when Israel did the same, but the Jewish State had already warned that it had no intention of obeying such a ruling.
In its application, South Africa asked the Court to indicate measures to “protect against further, serious and irreparable harm the rights of the Palestinian people under the Genocide Convention”accused Israel of having a “genocidal pattern” in policies towards the Palestinians and denounced mass murders, forced displacement and language of dehumanization.
Israel rejected such accusations, justified its war on Loop as their “inherent right to defend its citizens”the Islamist group Hamas and warned that the precautionary measures will prevent the rescue of the hostages, in addition to accusing South Africa to present a “factual image and deeply distorted legal system.” to the ICJ.
The war broke out on October 7 after an attack by Hamas against Israel, which left about 1,200 dead and 250 hostages.
Since then, the Israeli army maintains a powerful offensive by air, land and sea on the Gaza Strip which has left at least 26,083 dead and 64,487 injured, most of them children and women, in addition to an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
