A burning, resurrected rage breaks through from the pits of hell with a searing fury: FUMING MOUTH he’s back. The singer, guitarist and founder Mark Whelan emerges triumphant after a life-threatening battle with acute myeloid leukemia, reigniting the inferno of his music with the band’s second full-length album FUMING MOUTH«Last Day Of Sun«.

What initially began as a fictional concept album underwent a profound transformation into a hybrid of concept and reality, greatly influenced by the heartbreaking conflict of Whelan with his health and his almost brush with death. With only three weeks to record the album, Whelan received a devastating cancer diagnosis. While bravely fighting the disease, he rewrote melodies, drum sections and lyrics, infusing the music with his personal journey of struggle and hope.

Recording sessions began in October 2022, with the Grammy winner Kurt Ballou of Converge in his studio, god cityin Salem, Massachusetts. Ballou got in touch with Whelan after his battle with cancer and encouraged him to return to the previously scheduled recording session. Working closely with Ballou in both engineering and production, the band found a wonderful and collaborative experience, as they Ballou he was wholeheartedly involved in shaping their sound and vision. Salem also helped shape the album, as the Halloween season had begun. The crowds of tourists and residents mixed with people in costumes made the streets of Salem seem as if “Last Day Of Sun» would have come to life. The city where the witch trials took place presented the perfect setting for the recording of the album.

In the genesis of this album, there was no other artist who could have captured the essence of the album better than Mariusz Lewandowskiwith whom the band had already established a creative relationship through their work on the cover art for «The Grand Descent«. Tragically, Mariusz He passed away while working on the album’s artwork, which gave the band a huge obstacle to overcome. In homage to his spirit and legacy, they joined forces with the talented artist Stefan Todorovic, who created an evocative album cover depicting a Faustian city crumbling amidst the gray, sandy storms of the apocalypse. A colossal monster blocks the sun and looms over the city as it burns, smoking buildings collapsing to the ground; all a visual representation of the chaos and darkness that permeates the album.

FUMING MOUTH It is a testament to the indomitable human spirit. In the midst of the carnage and depression there is a glimmer of hope, a beacon of light emanating from within. But when the last rays of the sun cast its shadow, the question remains in the air. Will the protagonists of «Last Day Of Sun«? Will they bring out their worst inhibitions, tear each other to pieces, give up? Has everything they have built been for nothing? Will they find a way to overcome it, or will their panic lead them to failure?
