The attorney general of , denounced this Wednesday that “there is a plan” to murder her by a criminal gang linked to the assassination of a presidential candidate in 2023.

The people behind the alleged plot “are identified” and “are part of The Wolves“said Salazar during an accusation hearing by the “Metastasis” casea scandal related to organized crime for which more than 30 police officers, prosecutors, judges and the president of the judiciary Councilamong others.

Los Lobos were linked in 2023 to the shooting murder in Quito of the presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio11 days before the first round of the presidential elections.

Hooded men posing as members of that group claimed responsibility for the crime in a video, although the recording in which they did so could not be verified.

In that case, six Colombians ended up in prison and were later murdered. To date there are no convictions.

During the hearing, the official pointed out that the person responsible for said plan was Fabricio Colon Picoalleged leader of Los Lobos in Quito and key man of organized crime in the Ecuadorian capital.

Colón Pico, now free, has been linked to justice in more than 30 cases since 1997, according to the judicial function portal. The investigations include charges of murder, drug trafficking, extortion and robbery.

In 2012, he was captured after being included on the list of most wanted criminals, at that time accused of belonging to a theft and extortion gang that operated in Quito.

In 2020 he was sentenced to four years in prison for organized crime, but in 2021 he was released under a prison benefit.

In the “Metástasis” case, the Prosecutor’s Office investigates an alleged corruption scheme in the State to favor the drug trafficker Leandro Noreromurdered in prison in 2022, by paying bribes to police officers, prison authority officials and judicial operators.

Among those involved in Wednesday’s hearing are lawyers, judges, police officers, prosecutors and businessmen. Salazar requested that preventive detention be issued against the accused.
