Ten people were shot to death early Sunday morning in a rural area of southwest Mexico. Ecuador which remains under a state of emergency, the police reported.

All the victims died from “firearm projectile impacts“, a police spokesperson told AFP. At the scene, investigators found automatic rifle and nine-millimeter bullets.
“They were attacked while they were resting“, around 05:00 local time (10:00 GMT), added Colonel Fajardo, who announced that some of the victims were foreigners, although their nationalities have not yet been confirmed.
Some of the bodies were found inside a home while others were lying on a nearby road. “They were trying to escape this massacre“added Fajardo.
The victims “They would have come days ago. They have rented a property here in this rural sector” known as The Victoryhe added.
The police are investigating the events and have not yet given any clues about those responsible for the massacre.
El Oro is one of the six provinces of Ecuador who are under a state of emergency due to the upsurge in violence. In his war against organized crime, the president Daniel Noboa has continually appealed to this measure that suspends rights such as freedom of assembly or the inviolability of the home.
The government indicates that between January and October it has managed to reduce the homicide rate compared to last year, from 6,037 in the same period of 2023 to 4,959 this year.
Violent deaths in Ecuador have skyrocketed in recent years. The homicide rate went from 6 murders per 100,000 inhabitants in 2018 to 47 in 2023.
